Granular adsorption media for fluoride removal from groundwater
Advantages / Salient Technical Features
Fluoride removal by adsorption technique
• Product : Granular
• Working pH range: 5-8.0
• Working temperature: 15-35 C
o
• Regeneration: possible
• Environmental safe for disposal after use. TCLP test
for fluoride exhausted media (as per CPCB HAZWAMS
/32/200-2006: Passed
• 1kg of the media can treat 2000L of 2-3 PPM of
fluoride containing groundwater with pH 7-7.5, total
hardness <120; total dissolved solids <600; alkalinity
<200
• Adsorption media with fluoride removal capacity
2-3 times higher than the commercial/indigenous
activated alumina granules at pH 6.8-7.8
• Another advantage is that can eliminate other
anionic contaminants like arsenic
• Can be used either in batch or in continuous flow
water purification systems.
• No sludge formation.
Problem being addressed
• Adsorption media for treatment of fluoride
containing groundwater. The developed adsorbent
will be beneficial for treatment of fluoride containing
groundwater and thereby it would help in mitigating
the drinking water problems in the developing
nations. Scale of Development
• Domestic filter of 1.5kg scale; 5-6L /hour
Environmental Considerations (if any) in cartridges; gravity flow; and Scalable to
• No community level. (Current TRL Level : 06)
Major Raw Materials to be Utilized Commercialization Status
• Inorganic Iron and Aluminium Salts, alkali solutions • Not yet
and biopolymer solutions
