Expert Eye-on-Pellet

Advantages / Salient Technical Features
• Multi input and multi output controller for controlling
the parameters of iron ore disc pelletizer.
• Expert knowledge driven artificial intelligence based
controller for controlling the rotational speed and
feed rate of the disc pelletizer.
• Bidirectional communication and integration with
existing DCS of the plant.
• Option for switching from automatic control mode to
manual control mode in the DCS

Problem being addressed
• In India, conventionally the pelletization discs in iron
ore pellet manufacturing plants are operated by
human operators. Generally, the operator observes
the growth of pellet size inside the disc and changes
the disc speed and feed rate to maintain the pellet
size in a desired range. In one pellet plant, about 6
to 10 pelletizer discs are there and all of them are
managed by only one or two human operators,
who works in three shifts. This leads to sub optimal
production performance due to human error. The
Expert Eye-on-Pellet, developed by CSIR- IMMT helps
in automatic control of disc pelletizers and helps in
improving the overall production of the plant.
