Design and development of domestic and community improved biomass cook stoves
starting from small family of 5 to 200 community size

            Advantages / Salient Technical Features
            • An improved biomass cookstoves which can burn fuel
               efficiently with reduced harmful emissions
            • Health-related benefits of the use of improved
cookstove (ICS) - reduced smoke , fuel efficiency,
and saves time, together with flexibility in the size of
cooking pans, ease of use, appearance and safety.

            Problem being addressed
            • In India about four hundred million rural inhabitants
is facing a severe energy crunch. The energy shortage
is most acute among India’s rural poor, the majority
of whom rely on relatively inefficient, polluting and Application/Uses
health-threatening fuels such as kerosene and firewood • Using this improved cook stoves will
for their lighting and cooking needs. About hundred contribute to human health improvement
million tons of firewood per year is used for cooking significantly and conservation of biomass,
in India. The inefficient and incomplete combustion of apart from socio-economic and global
firewood in the traditional stoves releases emissions warming and climate change abatement.
