“Queen” Coal/Wood fired pottery kiln
Advantages / Salient Technical Features
• Can be operated by raw coal, firewood or any solid
biomass. Can attain a temperature upto 900°C with
coal.
• Negligible breakages of pottery during sintering
process. Uniform temperature inside the kiln, hence
better product quality.
• Reduction of fuel by 50% over traditional kilns.
Reduction of sintering period/time.
• Less labour/manpower required for the operation.
Easy to operate & very less maintenance required.
Can be operated in all seasons.
Scale of Development
Problem being addressed • Commercial Scale Capacities available: 4m3
• The traditional kiln used for sintering of terracotta – 6m3 (Current TRL Level : 07)
materials consumes more fuel, could not maintain
uniform temperature, required to engage more
manpower and could not maintain the quality of final Commercialization Status
product with more breakages. • Yes, Commercialized. Technology has been
transferred to 03 MSMEs/Govt. agencies.
Environmental Considerations (if any)
• Reduces pollution as compared to other traditional Techno-economics
sintering process. • NA
